I want to talk a little about buying flowers… Did you know that The British-Grown Flower industry is now worth £121m – up from £82m in 2015 – following years of decline owing to imported stems, figures reveal. “Last year homegrown flowers accounted for 14% of the £865m worth of all stems sold in the UK, compared with 12% three years ago, according to a report by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs." I find this fact amazing and wonder what I can do to increase this percentage. I know that my seasonal Welsh grown flowers are valued by those who buy them, but how do we get the message to more people about buying local? Well I have an idea… Rather than fill this blog with how horrid imported flowers are, I am going to fill it with how wonderful my flowers are, so here goes… As of today, (off the top of my head). I have growing and ready to cut … Roses, Snap Dragons, Cornflowers, Feverfew, Scabious, Penstemons, Lychnis, Sunflowers, Stocks, Herbs, Mint, Lavender, Nicotiana, Lupins, Pinks, Achilea, Grasses, Salvia’s, Corncockle, Lady’s Mantle, Foxgloves, Cosmos, Covent garden Gyp’s, Sunflowers, Daisies, Delphinium, Ammi, Calendula, Dahlia, Love in the mist…. And lots more.... Don’t forget you can still sign up to my subscription flowers, to be delivered to you weekly, fortnightly or monthly. I know lots of wonderful flower growers across Wales and the UK, so please buy local. Here is a wonderful map: https://www.flowersfromthefarm.co.uk/members-map to help you find the one local to you. In other news, I took part in a photo shoot for TyfuCymru www.tyfucymru.co.uk. I’m not sure I am going to take up modelling, but I really enjoyed myself, thanks to Vince Jones the wonderful photographer, http://wholepictureweddings.co.uk/ And of course no June would have been complete without Vegstock .. What a wonderful day. Dates for your diary: 17th August – The Flower Meadow Open Day https://www.facebook.com/events/270565353866385/
